Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School Designated STEM School
Columbus, Ohio - May 11, 2021 -The Ohio STEM Committee, the Ohio STEM Learning Network, and the Ohio Department of Education have designated Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School as an official STEM school.
STEM education is an integrated approach to learning where rigorous
academic concepts are learned through real-world, project-based
experiences. Students use science, technology, engineering,
arts/humanities, and mathematics concepts to make authentic connections
between school, community, and work experiences. The Ohio STEM School
Designation was created to award and recognize schools that are
exemplars of this work.
STEM designated schools employ highly effective teachers and leaders who meet the needs of the whole child. In addition, these schools have well-established partnerships with businesses, non-profit organizations, institutes of higher education, and other entities in their communities to prepare students for post-high school success.
HSA Columbus High was previously recognized as a National Blue Ribbon award-winning school by the US Department of Education, and it is regularly named as one of the top charter high schools in the state of Ohio by US News and World Report. Additionally, HSA Columbus High is also STEM certified by Cognia, a non-profit, non-partisan accrediting organization which operates in more than 80 countries.
The HSA Columbus High teachers and staff are ecstatic at the news of the ODE designation and are looking forward to continuing to serve the community.
